Proofreading
The London Scribe offers two levels of proofreading: basic and advanced.
Basic proofreading:
- Correction of spelling, punctuation and grammar
- Correction of typographical errors
- Stylistic revisions, where necessary
- Comment boxes for suggested improvements
Advanced proofreading / rewriting:
- Correction of spelling, punctuation and grammar
- Correction of typographical errors
- Comment boxes for suggested improvements
- Extensive improvements to vocabulary and syntax
- Rewriting sentences and paragraphs to improve clarity
- Restructuring sentences and paragraphs to improve flow
Transcriptions
The London Scribe will transcribe any audio or video file of any duration, including highly technical recordings or those of very poor quality. We are renowned for the efficiency of our service, and the accuracy and clarity of our transcriptions.
Our rates are very competitive because most transcription work is undertaken in-house rather than outsourced. This allows us to maintain strict control over workflow and ensure quality is of a consistently high standard.
When we do use freelancers, we ensure they are fairly compensated. This is extremely important to us. Most companies pay external transcribers between 35p and 70p per audio minute, which translates to approx. £5 to £10 an hour (as most transcriptions take four to five times the duration of the original audio to complete). The London Scribe pays its freelancers 90% of the full fee paid by clients.
All transcriptions are done in ‘intelligent verbatim’ to a set template, unless the client has different requirements. Intelligent verbatim means:
- The removal of all ums, errs and other fillers
- The removal of unnecessary repetitions
- A slight tightening of language where necessary, for readability
- Clear, unambiguous punctuation
- No changes to vocabulary or syntax
